Sinai Peninsula

The Sinai Peninsula is the portion of Egypt (a mostly African country) that lies on the Asian continent, with a land area of 60,000 km². It is a peninsula shaped like an inverted triangle, located in the Asian region of the Near East.

Geographical structure of Sinai Peninsula

Politically it belongs to Egypt, bordered to the north by the Mediterranean Sea, to the west by the isthmus of Suez (which joins it to Africa, and through which the Suez Canal runs), to the east by the border with Israel (which separates it from the Negev desert), to the northeast by the Gaza Strip and to the south by the Red Sea.

Its southern vertex enters the sea, defining two gulfs in it, to the west the Gulf of Suez, and to the east the Gulf of Eilat or Aqaba.

Tourist destination of Sinai Peninsula

The peninsula of Sinai has an infinity of tourist destinations, there are of all types: from coastal cities in which we find good hotels and we can practice diving, also it possesses religious monuments that congregate thousands of faithful every year.

The coasts are bathed by the waters of the Mediterranean and much of the interior is arid and desert-like. This conjunction of such dissimilar facets makes the place an option to enjoy diversity.

Also,The Mediterranean coast is ideal for vacationing, sunbathing with its beautiful beaches and diving, within the water sports that enjoy preference are: swimming, sailing, surfing, windsurfing, and many others. But of course, trekking through the sand dunes is not far behind.

Santa Catalina is another of the great attractions of Sinai, it is a city located at the foot of the mountains of Sinai, about 1600 meters above sea level. Its monasteries are one of the most visited sites of the peninsula, since it is said that the prophet Moses was there and was the scene of biblical miracles.
