The Black Desert

Very close to the White Desert is the Black Desert, 150 kilometers from Farafra, an uninhabited area that only receives visitors who hire organized trips to the oasis of Farafra, the white desert (which is much smaller). The desert is brownish-orange earth, and less black than its name sounds. The black is mostly seen on the pinnacles of the hills. However, it is still a landscape that looks like it is from another planet.

Explanation of The Black Desert

In this part of the western desert, the usual yellow sand gives way to an extensive area covered by rocks of deep black color, composed of a material called dolerite and a product of the intense volcanic activity that occurred in ancient times. Climbing to its highest point, called the English Mountain, you can appreciate the rugged nature of the soil and its beauty.
