The total area of the Bahariya Oasis is 12000 km (half a million acres), and the main geological formation in the oasis is the Nubian Sandstone, which is the water-bearing layer that makes up the aquifer of the Western Desert.
Mountains interspersed with valleys filled with palms, olives, apricots, and intertwined trees form green blocks that give a picturesque view that is not matched by a similar landscape in the valley. Mineral resources are represented in the presence of minerals such as iron, where there are the largest reserves of iron ore in the Middle East, and this is clearly shown on the natural and color formation in the mountains and highlands in the oasis, which are covered with black color, which is unique to the oases of the Western Desert.
It is also characterized by the presence of cold and hot mineral and sulfuric waters such as the eyes of Bir Hakima "warm 65 degrees Celsius" and the well of Ain Halfa in Al-Bawiti, where natural eyes amount to 400 eyes in various oasis areas in addition to hunting areas for ducks, gazelles and migratory birds
Population of Bahariya Oasis
The population is 48,720 thousand people, distributed over six villages, which are Al-Bawiti, the capital, where most of the services are concentrated, and the village of Al-Qasr is adjacent to Al-Bawiti and they form one residential block, and the other villages are far from each other, namely: Mandisha, Al-Zabu, Al-Qabala, Al-Ajouz, Al-Hara area, consisting of Ain Jubair, Ain Al-Wadi, Ain Youssef, and about 40 km away is the village of Al-Hayez, consisting of the following families (Tabel Amoun, Al-Azza, Reis, Ain Al-Sheikh, Al-Arabia)
The Bahariya Oasis is famous for the date industry, and the most famous factories are located in the cities of Al-Bawiti, Al-Mandisha and Al-Zabu, and a large part of its production is exported to the Arab Maghreb and Southeast Asia.
