Lake Nasser is a large artificial lake located in Upper Egypt, the southern part of the country, the lake also extends beyond the Egyptian borders to Sudanese territory.
The name Lake Nasser, however, actually refers only to the Egyptian part, corresponding to 83 percent of the entirety of the basin; as for the remaining 17 percent, located in Sudan, it is instead called "Lake Nubia." The Egyptian part is named after Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser who had the idea of building the high dam. The lake is artificial; in fact, the basin originated as a result of the construction of the Aswan Dam on the Nile.
