The History of the Springs of Moses
It is said that these springs are where the Prophet Moses met his future wife and helped her. It is also said that during the Exodus, the springs were salty, and then Allah turned their salty water into fresh water so that Moses could drink it. However, it is known that this is the place where Moses was with his people during their flight; Moses struck the ground with his staff, and 12 springs of water appeared, corresponding to the number of the tribes of Israel. Today, only 4 of the 12 springs remain, as the others have disappeared beneath the sand. Currently, water flows from one of these springs, called Ain El Sheij. The spring is located under a dome with Arabic-style windows. The water has a pleasant temperature.
