Cairo day tour to memphis sakkara & dahshur pyramids
Tour Details
The Dahshur and Saqqara Pyramids Tour offers a deep journey into the origins of pyramid construction and the rise of ancient Egyptian civilization, making it one of the most rewarding day tours from Cairo for history-focused travelers. This full-day experience is designed for visitors who want to go beyond the Giza Plateau and explore quieter, less crowded sites that played a crucial role in shaping ancient Egypt.
Your tour begins in Saqqara, home to the Step Pyramid of Djoser, the first large-scale stone structure ever built in history. Constructed in the 27th century BC by the architect Imhotep, Saqqara represents the turning point in pyramid evolution and the foundation of royal burial architecture. Walking through this vast necropolis offers insight into how early Egyptians experimented with design, engineering, and religious symbolism.
The journey continues to ancient Memphis, the first capital of unified Egypt and the political heart of the Old Kingdom. Once a powerful city that ruled Egypt for centuries, Memphis today preserves remarkable remnants of its former glory, including the colossal statue of Ramses II and the sacred Temple of Ptah. This stop provides essential historical context, connecting royal power, religion, and monumental architecture.
In the afternoon, the Dahshur and Saqqara Pyramids Tour reaches Dahshur, a royal necropolis known for its architectural breakthroughs. Here, you will visit the Bent Pyramid, a unique structure that reveals the challenges ancient builders faced as they refined pyramid design. Nearby stands the Red Pyramid, considered the first successful true pyramid and a direct predecessor to the Great Pyramid of Giza. Its massive scale and well-preserved interior make it one of the most impressive yet least visited pyramids in Egypt.
Throughout the tour, you are accompanied by a private Egyptologist guide who brings the sites to life with clear explanations and historical insights. Comfortable transportation, a local Egyptian lunch, and carefully planned timing ensure a smooth and enriching experience. The Dahshur and Saqqara Pyramids Tour is ideal for travelers seeking authenticity, depth, and a clearer understanding of how Egypt’s most iconic monuments came to be.

At the end of the visit to Giza pyramids, we will take a break and take the opportunity to eat and recharge. Lunch will be at a restaurant and Egyptian food (drinks not included).
Ancient Memphis Egypt
After Saqqara, we will undertake the last part of our excursion. We will head to Memphis, capital of the Old Empire between 3100 and 2040 BC, and the coronation site of all the pharaohs of the Empire.
According to tradition, Memphis was founded by Narmer, considered the first pharaoh. The city is located in the Nile Delta, right between Upper and Lower Egypt, the two regions into which the country was divided. In 1820, a huge statue of one of the most famous pharaohs, Ramses II, who ruled from 1279 to 1213 BC, was found in the Great Temple of Ptah near Memphis. The colossus, carved from pink granite, is more than 11 meters high and weighs more than 80 tons. For a time it was located in the center of Cairo, but erosion seriously damaged it and it was moved to Memphis, where it is exhibited in a covered area, to protect it.
The Bent Pyramid
Dahshur is a relatively isolated place south of Giza. Few tourists visit Dahshur, despite the fact that its two pyramids are rather impressive. The curved pyramid is 90 m high and is the fourth largest in Egypt. It was built by Senefru, the father of Cheops (the builder of the Great Pyramid).
The Red Pyramid
The Red Pyramid, whose constructions represent an elaborate evolution that marks the transition from the stepped pyramid, like that of Djoser in Saqqara, to the pyramid with canonical lines. The red pyramid, 105 m high, The entrance was made of red granite.
