Marsa Alam International Airport is the first privately owned and operated international airport in Egypt. It is managed by EMAK Marsa Alam Airport Management and Operating Company, a subsidiary of the Kuwaiti Al Kharafi Group.

Following successful negotiations with the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, the airport became the first in Egypt’s aviation history to operate under the BOT (Build–Operate–Transfer) system, with a utilization right of 40 years.
